Kumar, a senior engineer at TSMC with a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), has always been curious about the world beyond his profession.
After moving to Taiwan, he embraced life here wholeheartedly. Besides his work, he actively volunteers with TSMC’s Global Family, helping international colleagues settle into their new lives in Taiwan.
Traveling has always been one of Kumar’s greatest passions, and learning Chinese has become an important part of that journey.
Over the past two years, he has explored Taiwan from Keelung to Kenting, from Alishan to Yilan. With every new Chinese character he learns and every new conversation he has, he discovers another layer of Taiwan’s culture.
Kumar also has a deep appreciation for ceramic art. Visiting pottery studios and collecting handmade pieces has become another meaningful way for him to connect with Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage.
In class, I’ve noticed his special interest in Chinese characters, which has helped him develop strong reading skills. For Kumar, Chinese is not just a communication tool—it is a key to understanding the people, traditions, and stories behind everyday life in Taiwan.
Every student has a unique story. My greatest joy as a teacher is helping them use Chinese to experience a deeper, richer Taiwan.

學中文，不只是學一種語言，而是用另一種方式認識台灣。
Kumar 是一位來自印度的資深工程師，目前任職於台積電，擁有 Indian Institute of Science (IISc) 博士學位。
來到台灣後，除了工作，他也積極參與台積電 Global Family，協助來自世界各地的同事更快融入台灣生活。
旅行一直是 Kumar 最大的興趣，而學習中文，則一路陪伴著他的探索。
兩年來，他一邊學中文，一邊走遍台灣，從基隆、阿里山到墾丁、宜蘭。每多認識一個漢字、每多學會一句中文，就多打開一扇認識台灣文化的窗。
除了旅行，他也熱愛陶瓷藝術，走訪許多陶藝工作室，收藏了不少作品。在他眼中，語言、文化與藝術，都是認識一個地方最美的方式。
在課堂上，我發現 Kumar 特別喜歡漢字，也因此閱讀能力進步得很快。對他而言，中文不只是溝通工具，更是理解這片土地的一把鑰匙。
每一位學生都有自己的故事，而我最喜歡的，就是陪伴他們用中文，看見更真實、更精彩的台灣。
